"Valerie is the best Speech/Language Pathologist that I ever worked with in my whole career of teaching children. She is knowledgeable in communication disorders. When I walked in to her office, she always had the students engaged in fun activities. She wrote the most practical and realistic IEP goals for her students. I really look up to and trust my students with her. I am proud to call her a colleague." -- Mildred Nybo, Resource Teacher, Jordan & Tooele School Districts (Retired post 38 years of teaching).

Voice Disorders

Voice Disorders are those that involve abnormal pitch, loudness or quality of the sound produced by the larynx and thereby affecting speech production.  Disorders can be caused by vocal fold nodules, cysts, paralysis, swelling, spasms, papillomas, laryngitis, cancers, etc.

We have probably all experienced temporary hoarseness from colds or other illnesses.  From the advice of my college professor:  if hoarseness continues more than 10 days see your doctor to make sure more serious causes that require the assistance of a doctor are possible.  An ENT can do visual examination.

An ENT should be seen prior to receiving speech therapy.
